The EM5NT networked Ultra Low Frequency Observation Workstation is primarily used for natural-source and artificial-source magnetotelluric observation, and can use mobile observation methods for non-fixed point field observation, or use fixed point long term observation. The system is primarily composed of a receiver and magnetic plugs and non-polarized electrodes. The receiver has 3 built-in magnetic channels and 2 built-in electrical channels, uses GPS synchronization, and has a bandwidth range of 3000s - 15 kHz, uses a huge hard drive and SD card as storage media, and simultaneously uses multiple storage media for data backup. When being used as a main controller for long-term monitoring, the display can be turned off to reduce power consumption. When being used for mobile surveying, the monitor displays real-time test results, conveniently allowing real-time data evaluation, raising data quality. This device also has an advantage over other similar devices — it allows users to construct their own sampling mode and sampling rate, making the device compatible with all sorts of signal sources. The device features a built-in lithium battery and can operate continuously for 96 hours; it supports the use of storage batteries, solar cells or other sources for an external power supply to meet the needs of various jobs. The receiver contains a high performance computer and has strong wireless networking capability; if required, multiple stations can be networked together for simultaneous data acquisition. Because the main controller uses Windows operating system, it is convenient to use universal 3G, GPRS wireless network for multiple device data sharing. For long term monitoring, it can use its 100 Mbps-capable RJ45 port for long distance data transmission and control. Under all communication methods, the device is capable of automatically sending data transmission requests and remote control requests to fixed IP address. All communication methods support TCP/IP network protocol. Besides single-task mode, the system also has a scheduling function and can set an operation plan as needed; system-wide data acquisition, storage and transmission would entirely follow the schedule, allowing the device to not only automatically record, transmit and process the data, but also repeat work as necessary — truly a system that doesn't need human supervision. In addition, we developed data editor, impedance calculation and forward and reverse modeling software. Optionally, the data format is versatile, easily allowing for and supporting third-party forward and reverse modeling software.
